The Betrothed ; a Nation's row. By Dr. W. E.

Guthrie. (Edinburgh W. P. Nimmo.)—We fully agree with the first friend to whom Dr Guthrie showed this singular production that it is unmitigated rubbish, and we congratulate Dr. Guthrie on possessing a friend who can judge with such accuracy and express himself with such sincerity. Another time we hope the doctor will not disregard this healthy opinion. An American imitation of "The Lily and the Bee" is not likely, we should think, to meet with much favour, especially when parts of it seem to ho translated literally from a French exercise-book.
