my protest to that of other bereaved mothers against the proposed form of the memorials to the fallen ? Their comrades instinctively laid them to rest under a cross, the symbol of their redemption and also of their own willing sacrifice, and now it is proposed to substitute a milestone. Surely the Graves Commissioners will relent if they under- stand what grief this will cause to thousands of sorrowing mothers who, though they cannot be allowed to erect a memorial to their dear sans, had hoped one day to find them lying under the shadow of the Cross.—I am, Sir, be.,
