In My Garden

How far has the extinction of flower stocks proceeded in England? Correspondents continually write to say that they have utterly failed to get quite common plants. This week one such query concerns Iris Stylosa (which for the third consecutive month is giving me large bowls-full of flowers) and the common Jac.kmanii Clematis. My difficulty in answering is that I should have thought that any well-known nurseryman could have supplied either. The roots of the Iris, one of the only species that has a long flowering period, are particularly easy to divide, and if given a gritty soil, and a fairly sunny and well-sheltered aspect, are easily cultivated.
