ENEMIES OF ADVERTISING Snt,—Since nobody else seems to be sufficiently

ingenuous to make the obvious answer to the ad-men please may 1?

The purpose of advertising is to distort the truth. The purpose of all creative workers, all civilised people in fact, is to establish and to enjoy the truth. That is why they are opposed to advertising, be it from big business or politicians or even from supposedly enlightened intellectuals who want to 'educate' the public into accepting some current fashion. When we do educate our children instead of cramming them with useful facts, advertising will cease to be a problem.
