King - sized Attacks Mr. Cecil King is still getting support for

his outspoken complaints about hidden press censorship. The latest praise comes from Mr. Peter Benenson in the International Press In- stitute's bulletin. As a libertarian in these matters, I am all for Mr. King's fierce strictures. All the same, if I may rather belatedly return to it, he allowed his righteous wrath to carry him too far when,- in his prefatory article to the latest Press Council report, he described the Scottish rules of contempt of court as a 'stifling censorship.' The Scottish rules—limiting reporting of courts of first instance to the barest outline of committal proceedings—are a powerful guarantee of a fair trial, and. England should adopt them. There should be nothing here to offend such a liberal- minded advocate of fair play as the chairman of the Daily Mirror.
