SIR,—Mr. Roy Jenkins's note on the behaviour of Labour MPs

over the homdsexuality debate leaves room for a personal gloss, I' think. My wife and I wrote to our MP, Mrs. Braddock, after observing that neither her name nor those of Liverpool's two other Labour MPs appeared in the voting lists pub- lished after this debate. The terms in which we wrote were mild enough, in all conscience: we conceded that she might have had more important things to do, hoped that such a doughty champion of mental

health would have voted for the motion, but added that we would rather she had voted against than important social and moral issues were rare enough absented herself or abstained, since free votes on

to be cherished by lovers of Parliament. We have only had a formal acknowledgement of this letter. s° can only conclude that our MP prefers not to cots. • municate her views on this subject, either to Patio. mcnt or to her constituents. In this context, it seems unfair of Mr. Jenk ills iF make a disparaging remark about Mr. Grimonds little band. Two-thirds of them stood up to he counted—and stood up for civilisation tom—Yours
