Thv Catholic Marxists

Ste.--After Marx had been converted by Feuerbach to a truly dynamic atheism he said that to get rid of

the Holy Family superstition it would be necessary to destroy the human family. This is the gentleman

ith whose philosophy. the .Slant Marxists invite us to form a Christian synthesis. Of course, the syn- thesis is to be with the 'new' Marxism, btu there is.i. no Marxism. new, old or middle-aged that is not atheistic. Christian Marxism is a contradiction in terms. No atheism. no Marxism. That is not opinion, but incontrovertible fact.

Supping with this particular Devil means using the Devil's own spoon. Thus, the most recent Slant editorial claims that British Catholics should be able not only to vote Communist, but also to join the Communist party, which has 'considerable achieve ments' to its credit. In the same issue a contributor describes the Eucharist as 'a commodity' and the priest officiating at Benediction as a 'capitalist.' At

Spode House (a DomMican plant) a lecturer said that to meet with the contemporary world Christians

would have to discard Christ. I daresay it is possible that Fr McCabe or Fr Bright might think this was going rather too far, but it is only an extra and logical step along the Marxist road.
