SIR,—Perhaps Sir Winston had not a super intelli- gence of the type deemed essential in a member of our emerging, arrogant meritocracy. Perhaps, however, it is because he was only 'more equal than most,' an uncommon man with common fail- ings, that he has taken a place in history unattainable by contemporaries and successors of infinitely greater IQ.
