Sir: You argue that John Major became Prime Minister because he was not Neil Kinnock ('We deserve better', 1 July). In 1990?

You have left uncorrected the statement in a previous issue that Margaret Thatcher did not appoint a woman to the Cabinet. Lady Young was leader in the Lords.

You publish a letter by James Symington (1 July). He asserts that my analysis of the effect of a public interest immunity certifi- cate is 'quite wrong' after accepting in his first paragraph that I was quite right.
