An all-time Low

Sir: Bruce Anderson is wrong in attributing the famous cartoon 'Very well, alone' to the Daily Mirror cartoonist, Zec (Politics, 25 May). It was drawn by David Low, and appeared in the Evening Standard.

I remember thinking at the time how superbly Low had caught the mood of the great mass of the British public — though not, of course, of those who even then were ready to appease.
