FRIENDS' APPEAL : BOOKS FOR GERMANY

SIR,—Quaker relief workers in Germany remind us constantly of the book and pamphlet famine in that country and of the hunger of proved democratic Germans for good literature in English, German or other languages. There is a special need for war-time and current numbers of periodicals and for books of a political, economic, philosophical and religious character written since 1933, but classics and recent biography, travel books, plays and novels would be very acceptable. The Germany Group of the Friends Service Council appeals to readers of The Spectator to help them in their efforts to assuage this need by forwarding

literature marked " Books for Germany " to the address below.—Yours

sincerely, Joati MARY FRY. Friends House, Euston Road, N.W..t.
