Sir : I have been quoted in many parts of

the world in my attempts to speak up for Afri- cans' rights, but those of us who have travelled extensively in Africa and India must think that it is extremely far-fetched for your corre- spondent Dr Brian Holmes to claim that for Kenya Asians England is 'their own country.'

When I and my fellow-countrymen wished to visit Kenya before independence I can recall no one protesting on our behalf because we were not allowed in without proof of our not becoming a public liability and proof that we were medically fit and had undergone various inoculations and vaccination. Neither have I seen any protests that, contrary to freedom of religion, I and other Christian priests are not allowed into India without special per- mission which is not required from our atheist friends.

What I wrote in my diary twenty-five years ago of the opinion of a very senior police offi- cer in Tanganyika regarding the influence of Asians upon the Africans would lead me and you to court, fOr the natives of England are not allowed to speak about their rights.
