THE "CHRISTIAN SOCIALISTS."

Bin—Having taken up, yesterday, 111, Quarterly Review for September, I read therein a long and not very Ugly article, in which the reviewer spe- cifies as the very worst manifesto of the principles inculcated by Professor Maurice and Mr. Kingsley, a sermon preached by Mr. Kinfobley in St. John's Church, Charlotte Street, on the 2d June last ; and praises Oat.. incumbent, Mr. Drew, for declaring before the congregation his dissent from the sermon which they had just heard. Now, Sir, I am no "Christian Socialist," but I pledge my word to the fol- lowing facts. The Bishop of London, on representations made to him on the part of Mr. Drew, forbade Mr. Kingsley to preach again in his diocese. The same day, his Lordship received a copy of Mr. Kingsley's sermon ; after perusal of which, he immediately reversed his judgment, and informed Mr. Drew that he could have no objection to Mr. Kingsley's-preaching in any pulpit under his jurisdiction. Few will doubt, that if the Bishop had supported the denunciation of the discourse in question, we should have heard enough of the circumstance; and it is only fair to apprize the public of the communication to a contrary effect, which I know that Mr. Drew received from his diocesan. I trust you will give insertion to the above plain statement. I enclose my card, begging to be considered as doing so confidentially. I am, Sir, your faithful servant, T. C. D. P.S.—It may be right to add that Mr. Kingsley is quite uncognizant of this letter.
