Vie 6pectator

NOVEMBER 17, 1832 list England, the political prospects, of the Tories have been blasted by their adherence to arbitrary principles of government, obstinately persisted in until repentance came too late. They considered liberty to be an evil to be mitigated and lessened,

not a blessing to be extended and improved. . The haughty and unrelenting men, who for so many years banded themselves together to plunder and oppress their fellow subjects, have suffered so severely in the late battle on the Reform Bill, that, if not absolutely hors de combat, they will never again be able to recover the strongholds from which they have been bravely driven. They would act pru- dently, therefore, in retiring into their Conservative quarters, where with 'Claret and Madeira they may irrigate the dryness of decline.'
