Appleton's European Guide-Book. New York : Appleton. (Longmans.) —This book

is of American origin, and has the completeness which becomes a nation which travels even more than we do. It gives routes for the traveller in every European country, in most of them with great fullness and particularity, Russia and Scandinavia being the only ones that are treated with brevity. The usual information about railways,. steamboats, &c.; about sights ; about hotels ; about the general question of expense is to be found here ; and, judging from the small sphere over which the reviewer's experience extends, is of good quality. Maps of the principal cities supply a knowledge that is likely to be very useful. to the traveller, and which he does not get in common guide-books. The volume is in the shape of a large pocket-book, large, it must be under- stood, without being cumbrous, and is very sumptuously got up.
