Spectator. Vol. VIII. Edited by G. Gregory Smith. (J. M.

Dent and Co.)—This volume, containing Nos. 556-635, the second issue of the paper, which followed the first at an interval of eighteen months, brings the work to a completion. It may be noted that out of the first half of these eighty papers Addison wrote twenty-seven, of the second half three only, not contributing anything later than No. 660 (September 29th, 1714). The poem in 603, "My time, 0 ye Muses, was happily spent," is certainly John Byrom's. The careful editor of " Byrom's Poems," in the Chetham Society's publications, includes it. Mr. Gregory Smith, whom we may congratulate on having finished an excellent piece of work, adds some more notes, corrects a few errors ikad mis- prints, and gives a useful biographical index.
