We have been gratified by a sight of the "

Cup" to be run for at the ensuing Doncaster Races : the elegance of the design lied the beauty of the workmanship entitle it to particular mention. It rine- sents an oak, overshadowing e group of horses, brood-mares and foals, and supporting the bowl of the vase, which is embedded in the foliage that spreads around it on every side ; the two large limbs of the tree being bent down so that the branches form handles : the whole stands twenty. five inches high. The anitnals are well modelled in relief, and tlut texture of their coats is ingeniously imitated, as are also the bark of the tree and the foliage. The effect of the mass of dead silver re- lieved by the burnishing of the bowl and the pedestal is very beautiful. Altogether, it is a superb piece of ornamental plate ; and does credit to the manufacturers, Messrs. Storr and Nlortim,.r.
