MONEY MARKET.

STOCK EXCHANGE, FRIDAT ATTENNOON.

Although this has been a highly important week in the political world, and every day has brought us information of facts of a very serious charac- ter, and business slightly increased, quotations in the market for English Securities have only varied an t per cent from commencement of business on Monday morning. Consols were first quoted 931 931 for money and 93t 931 for Account ; considerable heaviness prevailed throughout the day and a decline of an I per cent took place in the afternoon. The market has since alternated, 931 93g and 93t 931. There have been several circumstances calculated to produce depression, but which have only produced a tem- porary heaviness. The Piedmontese movements with regard to the Roman Mates, the flight of the King of Naples, the financial disasters in Australia, coupled with the disturbances in New Zealand, and finally, rumours of a New Turkish Loan, have all had-only a slight effectupon business; whilst on the other hand, the continued -fineness of the weather and expectation of average crops, the easy rate for mooey, the slight demand, and the report of very considerable quantities of sieeie on the road from Australia, have tended to check any fall which might otherwise naturally have taken place. Console were this morning 93a sellers onK, but upon the publication of a second edition of the Times' the market suddenly gave way, till the quota- tion was 93k 931, at which price they finally close. Exchequer Bills 15. 45. prem. ; Indian Five per Cent, losi 103f ; New Three per Cents Reduced and Bank Stock abut; Consols for money, 93 93k. The Foreign Market has with only few exceptions maintained its late rise, and had it not been for continental politics, prices would certainly have still further advanced. Mexican, 211 21f; Peruvian Four-and-a-half per Cents, 94 95 ; Peruvian Three per Cents, 74 75; ditto Uribarren, 83 84; ditto the Dollar Bonds, 81 83; Spanish Three per Cents, 48 48k; ditto De- ferred, 39 39k; ditto the Certificates, 51 51 ; Sardinian, 83 84; and Victor Emmanuel, 94 95, are both 1 per cent lower ; Buena Ayres Stocks remain firm at their respective prices, 96 98 for the Six per Cents, and 30 31 for the Three per Cents ; Turkish Stocks quiet, the Six per Cents' 731 74, and the New ditto, 57 57k; Chilian Six per Cents, 103 105; - ditto Four-and-a-half per Cents, 82 83; Russian Five per Cents, 104 106. The Acoount concluded today passed off satisfactorily, with money ruling easy. English Railway Stocks and Shares have been very active, and prices have daily experienced a good deal of variation, the final quotations of this afternoon showing an improvement upon last week. Midland Stock is as high as 1261 127h; Great Western, 73 73; London and North-Western, loot noi ; Leeds, 112 1121; London and South-Western, 92194 ; Man- chester, Sheffield and Lincoln, 46 47. Traffics are still showing signs of great improvement; and the public seem more disposed to enter into trans- actions both for investment and account. North British leaves off 631 64; Eastern Counties, 53f 541; South-Eastern and Dover, 86f 87; Caledonian, 91f

921; London and Brighton, 110 111 ; Great Northern, 115 116; Ditto, the A stock, 119 121; Edinburgh, Perth and Dundee, 291 301; Berwick, 98f 991 ; Chester and Holyhead, 521 53. Although it will be observed these prices show a considerable rise, had it not been fora natural sympathy with the Consol Market, there would, in all probability, have been a stil i greater rise.

In the French Market business has been quiet, except in Lombardo- Venetian shares, in which a decline has occurred, the last figures being 11 1. In other things the business has been limited; Luxembourg closing 0 7; Northern of France, 371 38; Paris and Strasbourg, 241 25,1; Namur and Liege, 74 81. Indian Shares stationary ; Bombay and Baioda, 934 941; and Madras, 934 944. Joint-Stock Banks have not been active, but prices have been maintained ; Australasian is marked on the list 664; London and Chartered Bank of Australia, 231; English, Scottish, and Australian Char- tered, 15; New South Wales, 35; Ottoman, 164; and Provincial of Ireland, 841 84.
