Sunday boat races

CHRISTOPHER HOLLIS

Anglican clergymen, anxious to attend the university Boat Race, have protested against the BBC's suggestion that it be rowed on Sunday so as to avoid a clash with the Grand National.

Which is the properest day to row?

Saturday? Sunday? Monday, too? Each is the properest day, we know.

What is the point of a how-d'you-do?

Yet in reply to the BBC

Clerical gentlemen beg to say Ever since time began to be Saturday's always been Boat Race day.

True, that's the day that Aintree's run. Priests from Ireland can back their choice. .Why should the priests have all the fun?

And no one attend to the parson's voice?

`Parsons are left in a terrible fix.

Surely you see that it's hardly fair That those of the cloth should be asked to mix Putney-Barnes and their Morning Prayer.
