Chiang Kai-shek, the Cantonese Commander- in-Chief, who is generally credited with moderate views, is on his way from Shanghai to Nanking, though nobtxlv feels quite sure whether his purpose is to try to prevent his troops from falling back further or to establish a new centre of moderation in opposition to the Communists of Hankow. It seems to be clear, at any rate, that he has sent anti-Communist orders to Canton, which may or may not be obeyed.
