Suffrage approved by all

From Andrew Roberts Sir: The Liberal party did not bring in female suffrage (Answers to Spectator/ YouGov poll, 9 April), but the wartime Coalition government which included the Unionists. As Frank Owen recorded in his biography of Lloyd George, Tempestuous Journey, the 1918 Representation of the People Act that conferred votes on female householders or wives of householders over the age of 30 was ‘carried through both Houses of Parliament almost without opposition’.
