A number of alterations and SCOTLAN improv .

are making in Holyrood Palace, in anticipation of the Royal visit. Amongst the most noticeable of these is the conversion of the room adjoining the Throne-room into an

evening drawingroom. This apartment is to be handsomely furnished, and some splendid tapestry has arrived for the decoration of its walls. This would seem to indicate that we are to have this season, what was spoken so much about during the two last, either a levee or a drawing- room ; for either of which, from the alterations that have been made, Holyrood Palace is now well adapted. So far as known, nothing has as yet been definitively settled in regard to this matter. Mr. Lyon, who holds an important situation in her Majesty's household under the Lord Chamberlain, arrived at Holyrood Palace on Monday evening.—Scotsman.

Sir Charles Wood arrived in Edinburgh on Tuesday morning ; and in the course of the day visited, in company with Sir William Gibson Craig, several places of interest. In the afternoon, he set off by railway for Perth and Dunkeld, on a visit to Mr. Fox Malik.

Mr. John Fergus, M.P., has presented a bust of Adam Smith, by Ma- rochetti, to the burgh of Kirkcaldy, his native place.

The Law Amendment Society of Glasgow have appointed a committee to consider the best mode of beginning the preparation of a report on a general scheme of amalgamation of English and Scotch law.
