Last- Sunday, Mr. John W. Davis formally accepted the Democratic

nomination for the American Presidential Electiod. His speech was broadcast throughout the United States. The Times correspondent says that Mr. Davis preached the orthodox Democratic gospel. Ile strongly advocated a World Court and declared himself in favour of the entry of the United States into the League of Nations when the common judgment of the American people .was ready for that step. In his opinion Russia, Germany, and even Mexico, would soon take their seats in the Council of the League. It was incredible that America's seat should be left vacant. It was the duty of America to co-operate officially by every reasonable means to lessen the prospect of war. He severely condemned the policy of the present Ad- 'ministration of sending unofficial observers to Europe. We gather from this speech that though Mr. Davis recognizes the hard necessity of waiting on public opinion he would like to see his country enter the League of Nations to-morrow.
