No doubt they would be breaking the law if they

pro- ceeded to resist distraint, but they do not go so far as that. We have always pleaded for consideration for the genuine conscientious objector, though we admit that there is no more odious creature than the self-interested or hypo- critical conscientious objector. In any case, several members of the present Government eulogized con- scientious objectors during the War, and we shall be interested to hear what they say when the Lord Chancellor is challenged about the removal of Mr. Dent.
