Adultery for adults

Sir : At last I have read a sensible, sane and sincere article by Peregrine Worsthorne. Though allegedly satirically, he puts in a mag- nificent plea for legalised adultery (9 August). Even that great plaidoyeur for sinless sinning, Casanova, could not have emulated it.

As a family doctor with over thirty years' experience in general practice and a lifelong student of Sigmund Freud, I humbly submit that Mr Worsthome's article was dictated by his emergent subconscious and represents his fundamental beliefs. Most of his other articles are mercenary make-belief.
