Outlines of Naval Routine, by Lieutenant A. D. Foansgor, RN.,

is a complete course of instructions for the guidance of offi cers young in command ; in which practical directions on all minting° of a naval commander's duty are given; commencing with "putting a ship in commission," and going through the whole routine of the service, so far as the business of the ship is concerned. Sailors will best appreciate its value; but even to us landsmen its utility is apparent. The "Quarter Watch and Sta- tion Bills" appear formidable documents ; and the innumerable details conveyed in technical phraseology, are an amusing puzzle to the uninitiated, though they serve to convey a notion of the multifarious objects requiring the commanding officer's supervision.
