TARKA THE OTTER By Henry Williamson This new edition arrives

opportunely. The format is admirable, and the illustrations by C. F. Tunnicliffe combine strength with a delicate perception of those intrinsic qualities which have made Tarka the Otter (Putnam, 5s.) so deservedly popular among all lovers of the wild. We can readily accept the artist's assurance that nearly all the illustrations were genuinely made from scenes in the actual country described ; but in making a choice of excellencies we must admit our preference for those into which the human element, somehow incongruous in this milieu, does not intrude.
