Sir: Your correspondent Mr Man Smith (Letters, 2 February) was clever to notice that many who supported the Abortion Bill also seek to prohibit hare coursing; but in drawing the conclusion that they would have the hare better protected than the human foetus, he is surely late in the field. Is it not to Boswell that we owe:

If the man who turnips cries Cry not when his father dies, ?is proof that he had rather Have a turnip than his father?
