Nato's war crimes

From Kate Thomas Sir: My congratulations to John Eaughland for such an excellent article (`Victors' justice', 9 February) which manages to condense so much background to the Milosevic 'trial' at The Hague.

The question still remains to be asked: why did the mainstream press and the politicians, led by Mr `Goebbels' Campbell, so readily accept that genocide was taking place? The media and the government not only knew that this was a gross exaggeration, but they were ready to use the misinformation to condemn the Serbian people to being bombed.

Thousands of civilians in Serbia were killed and maimed by Nato bombs which rained down for 78 days; not to mention the tens of billions of dollars in damage which was caused. There are one million refugees in Serbia today, outside of the province of Kosovo (one tenth of the population), and the humanitarian warriors say nothing. Blair has just moved on to his next Crusade.

The popular media (very much including the BBC) should all be ashamed of their headline-seeking actions which have affected so many fellow Europeans so tragically.
