The new Canadian Parliament was opened, by the Governor-General on

Friday, January 8th. The speech. from the Throne indicated a great deal of new legislation; and reduetions of taxation. Mr. Lemieux was elected' Spefiker. A vote of confidence in the Government was proposed at. once, and Mr. Meighen moved an amendment. expreising want of confidence. ' The . little band 'of Progressives' refuses to promise support _ to either the Conservatives or Liberals. Mr. Mackenzie King, who,l with some more colleagues, still lacks a seat in the new', House, seems determined to carry on the Government as Prime Minister, as he is -now doing, or to throw the country into a new General Election.
