SOME BOOKS OF THE WEEK.

[Under this heading we notice such Books of the week as have not bun reserved for rewele in other forms.] The translators do not attempt, for instance, to refine on the meaning of " Salves esse."- They -render it "be saved," as the writer certainly meant,—i.e., secure the blessing promised to the faithful; and this—such is the plain sense of the word—could be secured only by absolute acceptance of the formula following. Apollinarians, Monothelites, Sabellian were shut out, and not less Orientals who did not accept the Double Procession. But even if this is acknowledged, the ingenuity of the apologist is not exhausted. The heterodox, one respected theologian tells us, "will perish eternally," but this does not mean that ha will " go into eternal fire."
