Hero

Sir: I was shocked and disgusted to find one of the greatest men alive today and a great hero of mine, Ronald Reagan, described as a geriatric warmonger by some ignorant Irishman by the name of Patrick Bury (Letters, 2 June). This is the kind of nonsense one expects in some far-left Time Out-style magazine, not in the Spectator of all things. As with all crazy left-wing letters, the allegations are grossly untrue and certainly call for a bit more qualification, to put it mildly. It's a pity his nutty sister isn't still alive: if she was he probably wouldn't make the sort of charges against Mr Reagan's great-grandfather under her name that he did.
