In this, our Scottish issue, we are delighted to be

able to congratulate Mr James Kay on an extraordinary victory. Mr Kay who, under the pseudonym of Seumas Ban, was one of the winners of our Scottish poetry competition last year, has fought for nine years for recompense for brain damage and deafness caused to his son, Andrew, by an overdose administered under the jurisdic- tion of the Ayrshire and Arran Health Board. In the later stages, lawyers refused to help Mr Kay, so he conducted his case alone, and, two weeks ago, won it. A judge awarded Andrew £102,000 plus costs. It is depressing to learn that the Health Board intends to appeal.
