JENNY LIND [To the Editor of the SPECTATOR.]

Sm,—I see in this week's Spectator a letter headed " Some Famous Singers," in which an allusion is made to Jenny Lind and her American concert tour. Some half century ago I had the much valued privilege of sometimes sitting next that great artist when she sang in the Bach Choir which her hus- band, Mr. Otto Goldsehmidt, conducted. One day I hap- pened to glance at a handsome wrap she was wearing, and she turned to me and said : " I gave that to myself after all my hard work in America. The rest I gave away." Those who knew her as I did will find nothing incredible in her statement
