Good King Charles's golden days

Sir: Why must your Roman Catholic contribu- tors constantly snipe at those who have the temerity to be Protestant? Thus Denis Brogan (2 May) on de Gaulle's resignation—'Now lesser men will "creep out again to feel the sun" like that eminent Protestant school- master, M Guy Mollet.' What has M Mollet's Protestantism got to do with the issue? As well describe the late Nazi dictator as 'that eminent Roman Catholic housepainter.'

If this snide sniping were merely an occa- sional aberration it would not be of any con- sequence, but it occurs with such consistent regularity in articles by your Roman Catholic contributors that one can but conclude that it is deliberate policy on their individual parts. They should recognise that the Reformation is by now an irreversible fact and accept it with as good a grace and as much Christian charity as they are able to muster.
