" SPECTATOR."1 812,—In your article "The Reason for the Terror," in the Spectator of October 9th, you attribute to an Oxford don the Phrase( "I implore you to think it possible you may be mistaken." The words were used by a mon much greater than an Oxford don—Oliver CromweH. They are given in Letter CXXXVI. of Carlyle's Letters and Speeehes, ke., were addressed to the General Assembly of the Kirk of Scotland, and run( "I beseech you . . think it possible you may be mistaken." The circumstances of the ease and the people addressed add great point to these memorable words.—I am.
