THE DREYFUS CASE.

[To THE EDITOR OF THE "SPECTATOR."]

SIR,—Late on Saturday last I heard of the verdict given at Rennes. On Sunday morning, after my custom, I attended my parish church, and the quite singular appropriateness of one of the Psalms for the day—Psalm LI. (I read theVulgate)—struck me. " Quid gloriaris in malitia, qui potens es in iniquitate ? Tota die injustitiam cogitavit lingua tea: eicut novacula acuta fecisti dolnm. Dilexisti malitiam super benignitatem ; iniquitatem magis quam loqui mquitatem. Dilexisti omnia verbs prmcipitationis, lingua dolosa." I pause there, but my readers will remember how the Psalmist, with magnificent denunciation, goes on to affirm his constant belief in the eternal justice of the God of the Hebrews.—I am, Sir, &c., W. C. W.
