SIB,—It is possible that Cagliostro knew that Roger of Wendover, in his account of the naval action in 1217 between the Cinque Ports Fleet under Hubert do Burgh and the French Fleet, mentions that the English, finding the wind favourable, threw quick-lime into the air, which was blown into the eyes of the French and blinded them (see Holinelted'a Chronicles, III. 347).—I am, Sir, &e., MARrtroso.
