Paying for Milk

SJR,—Regarding Leslie Adrian's note about dairies (September 9): Running twelve milk rounds, I find it is a lot of work for a moderate return. Dairies can send bills like any other supplier, but the margins fixed by the Government don't allow for any large sums to be owing.

United Dairies' scheme of payment in advance ensures no bad debts, but it involves a lot of office work. Here we sell tokens—buy worth off the milkman—and put out the appropriate number each morning. Easy. No booking. No bad debts.
