examination, I underlined for com- ment " harpy-footed," in Milton's line, " Thither by harpy- footed furies hard " (" Paradise Lost," ii., 596). One ingenious student answered,—" It means walking lightly and gently, as to the sound of the harp."—I am, Sir, &c., W. M. T.
