West Indies Policy A. P. THORNTON'S West India Policy under

the Restoration (O.U.P., 35s.) is a detailed and documented study of an important period in the history of the British West Indies; the author has not attempted to present any simplification of the international and political complexities of his subject, and has largely confined himself to a description of administrative machinery and its working. Consequently this is a book for the specialist, who may regret some of the signs of cony pression which are present : the less special- ised reader will regret that an author so well acquainted with the archive material has not widened the scope of his enquiry.
