Sir: Kingsley Amis suggests that his 'Pro- ject Outlawing Tintinnabulation In Pubs, Hotels And Restaurants' would be im- possible because nobody has heard of Potiphar (`Sod the public', 15 October).

Not so. Potiphar is in fact well known. If Mr Amis were to concentrate a little harder on the tittle-tattle of the stereo, he might recall that:

Potiphar had very few cares.
