In home affairs the event of the week has been

the launching of an appeal by the Dean and Chapter through the Times for contributions to save the endangered fabric of St. Paul's Cathedral. We publish an article dealing with the technical question of restoration. The writer points out that it has not yet been made clear what precisely must be done to the Cathedral ; whether, for example, it will really be necessary to remove the dome. He points out how extremely undesirable it would be to do this if it can possibly be avoided. The Commission which has been investigating the problem for the last two years has come to the conclusion that all that is necessary is to fill the piers which support .the dome with concrete under pressure.
