THE QUEEN has been leading a very quiet life at Osborne, as if gather- ing strength for the great state visit to Cherbourg ; occasionally daily carriage exercise, to Ryde, to Cowes, or less desolate spots.

Prince Alfred arrived at Osborne, on Sunday evening, from Alvorbank.

On Thursday, the Duke and Duchess of Manchester, the Earl and Countess of Clarendon, and Sir John Pakington, arrived on a visit to the Queen.

The Prince Consort went over to Gosport on Monday morning, to see the buildings and works which are in course of construction.
