The 19th hole

Sir: Buck's Fizz (Letters, 10 July) was first produced in the Thirties by Henri, the bar- man at the Golf Hotel Le Touquet, for `Buck's Weekend' when members, accom- panied by their sweethearts and wives, stayed for the annual club golf tournament and to enjoy other amenities which were available in that once fashionable town. The drink was served in a long glass, and was vastly refreshing after exercise. I was just old enough to enjoy it in its original setting in 1938. Henri would never divulge his recipe: certainly not to the barman of Buck's club in London.
