The A.B.C. of English Salt-Glaze Stoneware. By J. F. Blacker.

(Stanley Paul and Co. 15s.) Mr. Blacker's book is copious and generously illustrated, well indexed and full of the kind of information that the intelligent collector desires. The book's sub-title is From Divight to Donlan', and those who tarn from 'regarding the frontispiece showing Johp Dwight's masterly bust of Prince Rupert to the illustrations of soffie of Doufton's recent Pro- ductions will be likely to remark that the progress (luring the centuries that separate them has been largely backwards. The author, however, whose taste _does not seem impeccable, has perhaps chosen rather unfortunate examples, though we have had occasion to suggest before that a renaissance in the English ceramic arts seemed overdue.
