They are described as "popular," but the author goes below the surface of things, and is enlightening as to what Wales has and has not done. Lecture I. gives the general outline, in U. and III. we have appreciations of Geoffrey of Mon- mouth and Giraldus Cambrensis, IV. and V. are devoted to the castles and religious houses of the Principality, and VI. to tho period of culminating importance in Welsh history under the title of " Llywelyn ap Gruffyd and the Barons' War."
