The Honourable William Gladstone is now on a visit at

Hawarden Castle ; and during a shooting-excursion on Wednesday, whilst in the act of reloading one barrel of his gun, the other, by some means un- known, was discharged, shattering the fore-finger of the left hand, to such a degree that his medical attendant, Mr. T. Moffat, M.D., of Hawarden, decided upon amputation ; which was performed by him and Mr. G. Harrison, surgeon, of this city. We are glad to hear that he is going on remarkably well.—Cliester Chronicle.
