Diary tactics

Sir: Keith Waterhouse (Diary, 14 March) asks what the policy of Spectator readers is on removing the names of dead persons from their address books. For what it is worth, mine is to enter as accurately as pos- sible the date of death opposite the name, as it is a thing one very often forgets within a year or two, besides being helpful if one wants to look up an obituary notice. When the time comes to write up a new address book, then the terrestrial addresses of dead friends and relatives will clearly have to be left out; but their names and dates can con- tinue to be entered for remembrance.
