MARKETS FIRM.

CONSIDERING that we are now at the height of the holiday season the stock markets are holding their own in excellent fashion. In a few instances, in some of the speculative shares, such as Hydro Electrics and International Holdings, there has been a decline in price, but it has been due to Continental rather than local selling and in most departments the undertone has been one of strength. So far as some of the active industrial shares are concerned, and especially those which are dealt in internationally, the firmness is the more striking in view of the uncertainty with regard to monetary developments in the United States.
